Easter 2011

This Easter was our first Easter without Grandma and Grandfather. It was sad, but we still spent time together celebrating our risen savior! This was also Braden's first Easter. Poor little guy. It must stink to be the 2nd child. Almost everything he gets is something passed down from Kagen. Kagen has 2 old Easter baskets, so we just let Braden have whichever one Kagen said he could have. Each kid got 3 things in their basket from us. They got a snack, a toy, and something useful. Braden got some Gerber Puffs, 2 pacifiers (his toy), and a new sippee cup. Kagen got a box of animal cookies, a big parachute man, and some Thomas the Train underwear. He's so proud of the underwear that he even showed them to his babysitter today.

We had the day off Friday, so Zach and I took Braden to Abilene while Kagen stayed with Nana and dyed eggs. We got a lot done and both boys were very well behaved all day.

Saturday, we went to our annual Hargrove Family Reunion at the Bunkhouse in Stamford. This is my late grandfather's family. He had 3 sibblings and the oldest one is the only one still living. My great grandparents started having us all together each Easter many years ago and I don't see it ending any time soon.

We usually head to Hale Center after lunch on Saturday and spend Sunday with Zach's family. However, this year little Payten had her tonsils taken out and wasn't up for company.

On Sunday, we went to church, came home, ate lunch, put the boys down for a nap, and enjoyed a little down time. When the boys woke up, we had their Easter baskets ready for them in the living room with eggs hidden all over for Kagen to hunt. The weather was cool, rainy, and windy outside, so we kept the boys in. Kagen had a good time. Then we went over to visit my grandpa and last to my parent's house for dinner. By then, it had warmed up a little outside, so we let the boys hunt empty eggs outside. Kagen likes to hide them and then hunt them himself.

The 2 weeks leading up to Easter have been filled with horrible fires all around us. We have been lucky to have only had to suffer smoke in the air and dreary skies. This first picture is one that Zach took on Thursday the 21st outside our house. That was the evening that the fires threatened the city of Rotan. The sun is way up in the sky, but appeared red as though it was sunset.
